Lavonia, GA sits only a few miles from this proposed site. Just because this site is in Hart County doesn't mean Lavonia will not suffer adverse affects. If this incinerator is allowed to be built just off Knox Bridge Crossing, it will have a Lavonia address.
Lavonia, Ga will be known as the home of the poultry litter incinerator. Everyone's heard of guilt by association, right? How many clean, high tech industries and companies will even look at Lavonia after this? And if your property address is Lavonia, how hard will it be to sell your property? Your values will drop if an incinerator is built in your area. Do you think the Tugaloo triathalon athletes want to compete near this? Fishing tournaments, tourism, etc? What about your water? Does anyone remember the drought and Lake Hartwell's water levels?
Most importantly, your health stands to suffer the most from this industry. But at least you have a new hospital coming to the area. Maybe they need to go ahead and plan on more beds to handle the health issues!
Franklin County has done an excellent job in recruiting new industry. Hart County needs to come get some pointers from them! Hart County needs to be aware of what their actions can cost Franklin County. Franklin County would never locate an undesirable industry on Hart County's line.
Call your representatives and get involved! After all, wasn't your tax money involved in establishing "Gateway High Tech Industrial Park"? Hart County is siting this industry just past Gateway 1, leaving Franklin County out of this decision but affecting the entire area.
