Fibrowatt LLC uses chicken waste to generate electricity. Hart County is hoping to get one of the company's $200 million facilities.
A Pennsylvania-based energy company is eying Hart County as the site of a $200 million power plant that uses chicken litter to generate electricity. According to their website Fibrowatt LLC is the only company in the world using the waste product as fuel for power plants. Hart County is one of the state's major poultry producers.
Industrial Authority Director Dwayne Dye says Hart County officials have been courting the company for more than 3 years.
"We've been very aggressive and put the best offer that we had on the table back in 2007 and have been working ever since then to close the deal," Dye said. "Really it's based on the business need and the time line that they direct as to when and if they'll be coming."
